In the second quarter of 2022, the top communication apps in Ghana exhibited varied performance in terms of downloads and active users. Here’s a closer look at the trends for WhatsApp Messenger, WhatsApp Business, Snapchat, Messenger, and Telegram.

WhatsApp Messenger saw significant fluctuations in weekly downloads, peaking at approximately 370K in the week of May 2. However, downloads gradually decreased towards the end of the quarter, hitting around 68K in the final week of June. Active users remained relatively stable, starting at around 4.9M at the beginning of April and finishing at around 5.1M by the end of June.

WhatsApp Business experienced a peak in downloads during the week of April 4, with figures reaching approximately 214K. The downloads saw a decline towards the end of June, settling at around 123K. Active users for this app showed a slightly upward trend, beginning at around 2.2M in early April and ending at approximately 2.1M by late June.

Snapchat had a notable peak in downloads in mid-April, with around 91K downloads. This number decreased to approximately 60K by the end of June. Active users exhibited consistent growth, starting at around 2.3M at the beginning of April and rising to around 2.7M by the end of June. Weekly revenue for Snapchat was relatively low, peaking at $45 during the initial week of the quarter.

Messenger showed a steady performance in terms of downloads, ranging from approximately 44K to 60K throughout the quarter. Active users remained strong, starting and ending the quarter at around 5.3M.

Lastly, Telegram saw its highest download figures in the week of April 25, reaching approximately 81K. Downloads gradually declined to around 41K by the end of June. Active users remained relatively stable, fluctuating around 2.2M throughout the quarter. Revenue for Telegram was minimal, with a peak of $28 in the final week of June.
